چکیده

R.J. KOSLO, J.L. VAUGHT, A. COWAN, D.E. G M E R E K and F. PORRECA, lntrathecal morphine slows gastrointestinal transit in rats, European J. Pharmacol. 119 (1985) 243-246. Intrathecal (i.th.) (by direct lumbar puncture) and intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of morphine (30-100/~g/rat) caused a dose-related inhibition of gastrointestinal transit in the rat. Pretreatment with i.th. naloxone (5/tg at 5 min) reversed the effects of i.th., but not i.p., morphine. These results suggest that the spinal cord appears to be a target site for the inhibitory effects of morphine on gastrointestinal transit in the rat.

Sildenafil delays the intestinal transit of a liquid meal in awake rats.

Sildenafil slows down the gastric emptying of a liquid test meal in awake rats and inhibits the contractility of intestinal tissue strips. We studied the acute effects of sildenafil on in vivo intestinal transit in rats. Fasted, male albino rats (180-220 g, N = 44) were treated (0.2 mL, iv) with sildenafil (4 mg/kg) or vehicle (0.01 N HCl). Ten minutes later they were fed a liquid test meal (99...

The effects of cyclooxygenase inhibitors on the gastric emptying and small intestine transit in the male rats following traumatic brain injury

Objective(s):This study was carried out to investigate the effects of COX-2 selective inhibitor (Celecoxib) or non-selective COX inhibitor (Ibuprofen) on gastrointestinal motility. Materials and Methods: The rats were randomly divided into five groups including: intact, sham, traumatic brain injury (TBI) group (intact rats under TBI), Celecoxib group (10 mg/kg), Ibuprofen group (10 mg/kg). Rats...

Effects of Artemisia dracunculus essential oil on diarrhea and intestinal transit time in rat gastrointestinal tract

Introduction: Artemisia dracunculus L. belongs to Asteraceae family, and is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional medicine as a remedy for gastrointestinal disturbances. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of essential oil of A. dracunculus (EOAD) on the rat alimentary tract. Methods: The EOAD was extracted by Clevenger apparatus using hydrodistillation. LD50 was calcula...

Acceleration of the gastrointestinal transit by polyethylene glycol effectively treats unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia in Gunn rats.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Several conditions that delay gastrointestinal transit are associated with unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia. We hypothesised that the gastrointestinal transit time is directly related to plasma unconjugated bilirubin (UCB) concentrations, and that this relationship can be used to develop a new therapeutic strategy for severe unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia in the Gunn rat m...

Slowing intestinal transit by PYY depends on serotonergic and opioid pathways.

Slowing of intestinal transit by fat is abolished by immunoneutralization of peptide YY (PYY), demonstrating a key role for this gut peptide. How PYY slows intestinal transit is not known. We tested the hypothesis that the slowing of intestinal transit by PYY may depend on an ondansetron-sensitive serotonergic pathway and a naloxone-sensitive opioid pathway. In a fistulated dog model, occluding...
